Zone 0.0

I am happy to report that Zone 0 has been achieved!

A group of us went snow camping (oxymoron?) in Lassen National Park. National Parks are reasonably close to nature in its unadulterated state. And when the Park is covered in snow and more is falling all the time; I would say that I was observing a wilderness very similar to one unaffected by humans.

When you spend time camping in a wilderness area the urban environment is “you”, and the things you bring with you. One main way that we bring our city ways with us is by the tracks we leave and the trails we make. It was interesting, amazing, and disturbing to be continually making paths and have them dissipate as soon as you turned your back.

It was also fascinating to drive from the snow-covered wilderness through all of the zones, of nature and urban interaction, and into the urban core in a matter of a few hours. I always find that journey a bit disorienting.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog! You are a crucial part of this project.
