Zone Number One

Hello Art Project. Nice to see you again.

In my quest to come up with a slide show of images of nature and culture interacting I have come up with a zone system to help me succeed.

Zone 0 – Wilderness. For example in a national park or forest service wilderness. These are areas that we have specifically set aside to protect from change caused by man.

Zone 1 – Rural. Areas that are surrounded by nature and wilderness. People live here but there is no major centralized commerce. Small schools, sparse population.

Zone 2 – Sub-Rural. Near the suburbs. Places that are on the border of natural areas and urban areas.

Zone 3 – Sub-Urban. Many houses and stores. Towns that have all the services. Big box stores and retail a plenty.

Zone 4 – Urban. Large cities, dense populations, regional hubs of commerce and human activities.

Zone 5 – Urban core. Tall buildings, lots of shade, full pavement, heavy commerce, little residential.

This post is my first of Zone 1 – the Rural zone. I was interested in how the small town of Lee Vining interacted with the high plains just east of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Enjoy! – Joel G
